Hi everyone! Downtown Augusta Week on The Anthony Esposito Show rolls on. In studio we had Jonathan Pike and Kathy Turner to talk about Immaculate Conception Academy's big move to Telfair St. from Laney-Walker Blvd. You can read all about the big move in the Augusta Chronicle here and all about the school here. Even more importantly, I enjoyed seeking my revenge on-air for the spanking that Immaculate Concpetions's middle school boys basketball team delivered to my Westminster team some 20 years ago! While I only tied Principal Pike 0 to 0 in our basketball shooting contest, that tie was much better than the blowouts we used to suffer back at the hands of I.C. back in the late 80s and early 90s.
And a big thanks to one of my most popular guests, Roy Davenport of Artistic Perceptions on Broad St. Roy is also known as the husband of the great oil painter Wanta Davenport, the artist who painted the portrait of Mayor Deke Copenhaver that hangs in his office. Equally amazing was my on-air discovery that Roy and Wanta got engaged just 5 days after meeting each other and were married after only 4 weeks of dating. 53 years later, here they still are. In the words of Roy, "It's not going to last." ;->
Before the show I dropped by the opening ceremony for the expanded Highland Avenue Water Treatment Plant right by my house. What I thought would be three people and the mayor just standing around, turned out to be a 200 person gala. Some of the pictures from that event are here:
On Friday's show, Discover Downtown Augusta draws to a close with appearances from the Executive Director of the Augusta Museum of History and members of Garden City Jazz. Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city . . . Downtown!
